“Waves” UK School Games (2010)
MSA Visuals’ Memo Akten was commissioned by Modular to create interactive visuals for the UK School Games 2010opening ceremony at Gateshead stadium in Newcastle. The project involved using an array of cameras to convert the entire runway into an interactive space for the opening parade of 1600+ participants walking down the track as well as a visual performance to accompany a breakdance show by the Bad Taste Cru. All of the motion tracking and visuals were created using custom software written in C++ and using openFrameworks, combining visual elements created in Quartz Composer. Again using custom mapping software, the visuals were mapped and displayed on a 30m LED wall alongside the track. The event was curated and produced by Modular Projects, for commissioners Newcastle Gateshead Initiative.
